About the American Lung Association

Your Dollars At Work

The American Lung Association is the leading organization dedicated to saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through our pioneering model of education, advocacy, and research. 88 cents of every dollar donated goes to our program services that directly touch more than 20 million Americans each year.

Our important lung health programs and focus areas include:

COVID-19 Action Initiative

The Lung Association has launched the COVID-19 Action Initiative, a comprehensive $25M initiative to end COVID-19 and defend against future respiratory virus pandemics.

This initiative will be used to fund respiratory research, enhance key public health measures through education and advocacy, and establish an advanced network of public and private entities to develop new vaccines, detection tests, and treatment therapies, to stop future respiratory virus pandemics.

LUNG FORCE

A national movement led by the American Lung Association, LUNG FORCE unites women in the fight against lung cancer and for lung health. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of men and women in the United States.

Through LUNG FORCE we plan to invest more than $10 million in lung cancer research; $5 million to increase public health promotion including awareness of early detection tools, such as CT screening; provide patients with information about clinical trials and biomarker testing; and advocate for increased federal funding for lung cancer research to $450 million by 2020.

Lung Action Network

Our Lung Action Network is a group of advocates that make their voices heard on key issues that impact lung health. By becoming an advocate, you lend your voice to our critical efforts to reduce lung disease, fight for clean air and, ultimately, save lives. Sign up now!

Asthma Basics

An interactive online learning module designed to help people learn more about asthma and asthma management techniques, Asthma Basics is available for everyone - including school nurses, community health workers, individuals with asthma, parents of children with asthma, co-workers, and friends and family who want to learn more about the disease.

Better Breathers Clubs

Better Breathers Clubs are patient-centered and community-based educational support groups for those living with chronic lung disease and their caregivers. Clubs meet regularly and feature educational presentations on resources and support on better COPD and pulmonary fibrosis management.

Freedom From Smoking®

For more than 35 years, Freedom From Smoking® has helped hundreds of thousands of people to quit smoking for good. Ranked as one of the most effective programs in the country, Freedom From Smoking is available online, through in-person group clinics or a self-guided workbook, and takes the individual through the process of quitting smoking, one step at a time.
